In 2017 Vintage Thunderbirds of Houston (VTOH) established a scholarship at Houston Community College (HCC) Automotive Center of Excellence in the Automotive & Body Shop programs. The objective of this scholarship is to support students earning Certificates in Automotive or Auto Body-Collision via staged funding tied to minimum course performance. Additionally, this creates opportunities for mentoring & supportive relationships between the VTOH, the scholarship students, and the faculty of HCC.
The certificates are taught in three blocks: Automotive, Body, and Diesel.
The scholarship was started with an initial donation of $5000. The first scholarship grants were made to 5 students for two semesters.
With continued donations through the end of the Fall semester of 2022 VTOH has donated $30,000 to date. 32 students have now been recipients of our scholarship.
Additionally, in 2019 the VTOH facilitated the donation of a 1955 Ford Thunderbird currently being used as a hands-on project car. See the “donor car project” page for updates. In the Spring semester of 2023 the car will transition to the body shop.
HCC works to improve the quality of life in our community and by partnering with them, VTOH makes a positive impact on the on-going viability of the local automotive industry in general and the classic car repair sector specifically.
